"For these past ten years I've been participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos. As a writer, as a human being I think that everybody in the world is commited to improve the state of the world.
Therefore during this year we would like to have your question, your thoughts.
How can we, as a society, meaning everybody, really improve the situation of the world. Please upload your answer to http://www.youtube.com/davos."

Don't fight global warming, increase environmental sustainability.
Don't fight aids, hunger and obesity increase healthy behavior.
If you're a well-off philanthropist, powerful captain of industry, or high level government official working to "make the world a better place" you must read the following two books: Despite Good Intentions & The Lords of Poverty
Actually, even if you're not one of the elite and simply want to make the world a better place, you should read both those books too.

http://razela.blogspot.com to see more of my videos. Also, if you have a more thought out response, I'd rather you put it there since this is just getting way to many comments.
This is my response to the question: "What one thing do you think that countries, companies or individuals must do to make the world a better place in 2008?"
Please go VOTE for my video at http://youtube.com/thedavosque stion
You have to click the "Vote" tab then do a search (I would try searching "science" or "razela" to find mine).
The top videos will be shown to some of the world's most highly influential people at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
So, if you like what I have to say, please vote for it and maybe it will make an impact on some of the leaders at the forum.
Go to http://youtube.com/thedavosque stion for more information on how to watch, vote, and upload your own videos.
Seriously, watch some of the other videos. There are some VERY good ones mixed in there.

This idea is simple, effective, and can build momentum before Davos finishes. Countries, companies and individuals should upload videos asking for ideas about how to tackle the issues they're working on.
If you stop and think about it, this is surprisingly powerful. It engages the public, empowers the person asking the question, unleashes creativity and still more.

I think to want to change the world people must detach from their personal interests and really understand how their daily lives affect the lives of humanity and that starts with family societies and nations. Letting go of personal interests in exchange for global interests in turn uplifts your values and your global quality of life.
Great disparities between humans such as their exists today between the rich and the poor can not breed peace and happiness.
This of coarse must be based on a new type of education that is set on higher moral values. Where the culture of winning is less engrained and the culture of deserving and of excelling is at the forefront. A culture of rather then tv win it all shows. A culture of glamor rather then a culture of beauty because we want to put materialistic clichés on it. A culture of well being rather then one of power and glory. A culture of thought more then blind religious faith a culture of mind openness and meditation. Rather then one of samurai's. I hope that for 2008 humans will tune to their higher selves and declare the end to exploitation war domination and global world inequality. From the pentagon to Al Quaida
from the streets of NY city to the slums in Pakistan from the European bistros to the farmers in Asia the workforce in India Saudi Arabia. A new hope a new urge
And answer the Davos question.

According to "themanyone":
"Money can be used to make a garden but it can't make things grow. Money can help mom and dad make ends meet but it can't keep them together. It can buy books but it will not make you well-read. Those things take work. Work is superior to money and can be used in its place, and with greater value. A person who is not lazy is not poor, no matter what the tax man says."
According to ProteanView:
Some people create a meal without a recipe while others rearrange the plate of food served to them and wonder why the meal is the same.
Money strips the self worth of a culture by rendering paper and coin more valuable than people and the actual goods & services they represent. It's not human nature; it's the nature of money.
Money is a 'middle man' & controlled by a third party who adjusts interest rates for the good of those who don't need to be a part of or profit from my exchange with another. All I wish to do is remove that middle man. I don't want my value adjusted for someone else's good. We're as dependent on it as crack and we never second guess whether or not we need it. We're forced to keep acquiring money when our worth is built in, it's constant.
We think of a farmer as a farmer and a teacher as a teacher. Civilization leads us to believe we are worth one skill. One who grows vegetables is just as much a cook, teacher, hunter, babysitter, etc. Civilization has caused us to feel worthless if we don't possess a skill corporations need. Civilization encourages us to do only one skill and rely on corporations for the rest. We'll need money to get the very things we can produce on our own from corporations or businesses. We possess survival skills and that has actual, practical worth to anyone in any society unless we're taught that we are of little value, so we work for money to purchase what we can produce.
We can teach, cook, garden, sew, build, repair, grow, babysit, hunt, give health care, clean. Money has us thinking that we are only worth what a company wants from us & that if we don't possess these things, we're worthless.
Globalization was once a pipe dream. It took think tanks (Council on Foreign Relations, Trilateral Commission, Bilderberg Group, Bohemian Grove) and decades of studying & lobbying before a company from Britain could own US ports and a company from UAE could make an offer to purchase them.
If we don't start or consider something until we have all of the answers, we'll never accomplish anything. I'm sure the Wright Bros couldn't explain exactly how they would fly. Try, instead, to get the overall idea of my point. I'm sure there were numerous "what if"ers of the Wright Brothers, too. I'm sure the micro-questions were rational. They were wrong.
The very things most appreciate and defend wouldn't be if the powers that be needed all of the answers instead of looking at the benefits and taking action.
Some people create a meal without a recipe while others rearrange the plate of food served to them and wonder why the meal is the same.
We now crave, defend and run towards that which makes us physiologically, emotionally and mentally sick & punish those who wish to break free from it.
